A Question For my Brilliant Readers

Yes that does mean you!

Have you ever used an embroidery machine redwork design on a finished quilt?   I have read about using them to quilt with, but I want to hear from someone I "know" who has done it.

I would also like to hear any tips or tricks you have for doing it.
I would hate to wreck a quilt trying it.  and Yes, I know I could do it with scrap batting and fabric, but well - If I don't hear from someone who has tried it, I suppose I will have to do that.

Yes I have done it.. Although you need to run the design first on the scrap so you can see it sew out. Some digitizers design their redwork to stitch forward, then backward and then forward again...making the stitch a bit heavy for quilting. There are digitized embroidery patterns just for quilting that look much like machine quilting. That said...that is a lot of hooping and rehooping to do...

If you show me what designs you are using and what quilt you want to incorporate them, I can help you with it. I also have a lot of redwork designs, if you want. If you saw my machine embroidered quilt that I posted, I designed the quilt using Embird software.I would be happy to help. I love machine embroidery!

I have done a design on a finished quilt although, in my case it was a user error in not reading the directions correctly. HA Future warning - do NOT do a wall hanging quilted calendar and stitch the calendar AFTER you've finished the quilt. It must be done before or ummmmmm yea, the calendar on the back is well.....pretty much unreadable as it's backwards. LOL

Just remember to use the same thread in the top and bobbin so it's the same on both sides. It sounds like you have you've got a few here that are offering further help so good luck.
